Auto China 2008: Volkswagen unveils the new Bora and Lavida sedans at Beijing

The Chinese joint venture of Volkswagen AG, unveiled two new models designed specifically for the local market at the Auto China 2008 event at Beijing.

The two models showcased at Beijing are the Bora sedan, built with China FAW Group Corporation, and the Lavida sedan - the first model developed entirely by Shanghai VW, its joint venture with China's Shanghai Auto, the company said in a statement.

According to the German automaker, the new Bora and Lavida should help to 'further solidifying Volkswagen's successful position as a market leader in China.'

Volkswagen, which added six new models in China in 2007, aims to increase sales in the country by at least 10 per cent this year to more than 1 million cars.

Yesterday, Volkswagen's Audi AG luxury-car unit made a global debut of the Q5 sport-utility vehicle at an event in Beijing. The company also introduced the A5 sedan to the Chinese market.

Audi leads the luxury car segment in China in terms of sales, where the segment is growing nearly 30 per cent year on year.
