Thiruvananthapuram: The airborne version of the country's supersonic cruise missile 'BrahMos' would be inducted into the Indian Air Force in 2012. This would result in all three wings of the military being equipped with one version or the other of the versatile supersonic cruise missile, a top BrahMos official said Wednesday.

"We have developed the airborne missile part, and process of integrating it with the Sukhoi aircraft was progressing", BrahMos Aerospace Ltd CMD Dr A Shivathanu Pillai said at the BrahMos Aerospace's facility here.

He also mentioned that the trial run of airborne version would be held next year and very likely the missile would be fully integrated with the aircraft by 2012.

He said that the original designers of the Sukhoi aircraft were also involved in the integration process of the missile.

"We are working with them (Sukhoi). Some changes are necessary and once the alteration is identified, we will introduce the same in the aircraft," Dr Pillai said.

With the airborne version inducted all the three wings of Indian military – the air force, navy and the army -- would have the supersonic missile, he said.
