Visakhapatnam: The commissioning of the new 10,000-ft runway, as well as of a new Instrument Landing System (ILS), at the Visakhapatnam airport, would most likely take place in the third week of June after inspection and clearance by a team of Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) officials.

According to the local Member of Parliament from Visakhapatnam, N Janardhana Reddy, work was progressing well and the runway was expected to be ready by June 15. He said that civil works intended to set right minor defects, as pointed out by defence authorities, like filling of joints, potholes etc., in the new runway, were progressing at full swing and were likely to be completed by June 10.

The DGCA inspection team was expected to visit the city once this work was over.
